Watch Your Body Language

Body language reveals a lot about your character, particularly your attentiveness to and respect for the person you're speaking to. While body language sends a subtle message, it's one that your boss will certainly pick up. Follow these guidelines:

• Don't stand too close.
• Don't back someone into a wall.
• Sit attentively in a chair, not slumped.
• Focus on the person you're talking to—don't let your eyes wander around the room.
• Keep your legs still.
• Don't fiddle with your pen, keys, or other objects.
