Executive search firms are paid by client companies to attract and find candidates that bring with them a pre-determined set of skills. Or have knowledge about a particular product. method, or system.

This system is often related to a wish list that a child might place under a Christmas tree in the hopes that Santa Claus will find it and leave all the items on the list under the tree.

What this means is that a search firm does not try to find positions for candidates, but with that said, they must constantly be talking to people that are potential prospects to fill a client's openings and needs.
